Decision No. 6

Not extending Justin Jefferson

With every loss the Vikings suffer now, the fear of Justin Jefferson wanting to be somewhere else is only going to grow for Minnesota's fan base.

After Jefferson became eligible to sign a new contract this offseason, most assumed the Vikings were going to find a way to extend the All-Pro wide receiver and keep him in purple for the prime of his NFL career.

But in a shocking turn of events, Minnesota and Jefferson were unable to agree to a contract extension this year. Despite developing into the best wide receiver in the league in just three seasons, the Vikings were apparently hesitant about giving him a gigantic payday.

It's just incredibly difficult to understand how Minnesota screwed this up. Jefferson has basically earned the right to be the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL, and if that's something that he desires, then the Vikings should have made that happen.

Instead, there's now a possibility of Jefferson following in the footsteps of Randy Moss, Percy Harvin, and Stefon Diggs by becoming the next star wide receiver to force his way out of Minnesota.

The Vikings have now started with an 0-2 record in three of Jefferson's four seasons with the franchise. Eventually, he's going to get tired of losing. Is that something that's going to happen sooner than later now after not signing an extension this year?

Unfortunately, with Minnesota failing to extend him this offseason, Jefferson wanting to play elsewhere after the 2023 campaign is now something that can't be ruled out.
