More on Frazier and Tice

Here’s the latest on the status of a pair of Vikings-related guys who are alleged to be in the running for the Miami Dolphins head coaching job…

First, the guy who’s of more immediate concern to Vikings fans, Leslie Frazier.  The defensive coordinator interviewed for the Dolphins head job on Monday, and there has thus far been no news as to how that went.  But…there is a second place Frazier’s name has popped up in connection to – Indianapolis.  All week rumors have been swirling that Tony Dungy wants to give up coaching and pursue other interests.  Now, a new report has surfaced that has Frazier in the running for the Colts job should Dungy in fact elect to leave.  Frazier of course was an assistant with Indy before coming to the Vikes.  And, for that extra sense of symmetry, might I point out that Dungy was himself the highly-respected defensive coordinator for the Vikings before striking out on the head coaching path that would lead him to Super Bowl glory.

Second, and perhaps less-importantly from a Vikings perspective, is the news that former head coach Mike Tice will be in Miami Monday to interview for the same Dolphins job Frazier has already auditioned for.  This comes from a New York Jets site, whose writer also claims that current Dolphins Executive VP of Football Operations Bill Parcells has “always admired” Tice.  For what, his dry wit?  His skill with a snowblower?  His ability to open beer bottles with his armpit?

I’m declaring right now – no matter how impressive Mike Tice is “in the room,” there is no freaking way Parcells hires him as head coach.  Not when the assignment is to turn around a team that went 1-15.  Maybe Tice gets offensive coordinator.  But that’s it.
