Randy Moss Wants to Reunite With Daunte Culpepper?

facebooktwitterreddit

I wouldn’t even bother with this rumor, except that it was reported by John Clayton:

"With no deal close with the New England Patriots, Randy Moss continues to explore all options in his first professional exposure to free agency. On Saturday night, he came up with an interesting idea. He reached out to Daunte Culpepper, his former quarterback with the Minnesota Vikings. The two former teammates discussed the possibility of finishing what they started in Minnesota on any NFL team interested.Though their relationship ended a little rocky when Moss left the Vikings to go to the Raiders in a trade, Moss and Culpepper stayed in touch with each other and stayed friends. They joked that at some point they might be free agents at the same time and might have a chance to unite. As Moss spent his second day in unrestricted free agency Saturday, he started to think about Culpepper, who also is a free agent. What they had talked about for years all of a sudden was true."

This rumor was repeated on Rotoworld. Unfortunately, the idiot who writes for them doesn’t know how to read, because it was presented this way:

"ESPN’s John Clayton reports free agent Randy Moss reached out to Daunte Culpepper over the weekend and they two discussed the possibility of teaming up again with the Vikings. This isn’t realistic, especially after the Vikings signed Bernard Berrian, but at least someone is calling Culpepper. The rest of the league has apparently lost his number."

Nowhere in Clayton’s piece does it say they discussed returning to the Vikings…it says they discussed returning with any team that would have them. Presumably this would include the Vikings…unfortunately, the Vikings’ front-office lives in the real world and not fantasy-land, so this could never happen.

Still, when I first saw that misreported rumor on Rotoworld, I have to admit, I peed in my pants a little.
