Frerotte Still Trying to Play

The Tarvaris Jackson Boosters Club may have to postpone the party it had scheduled for this Sunday at noon central.  Everyone assumed that Gus Frerotte wasn’t going to play this weekend – that whole broken back thing – and that the mighty T-Jack would therefore be making his triumphant return as the starting quarterback…but now comes word from offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell that Frerotte managed to haul himself out onto the practice field today and there’s still a glimmer of hope that he could be ready for the Cardinals.

“I wouldn’t say it’s official yet,” Bevell said when asked about Jackson’s starting status. “Gus came in feeling better today and he’s making a push to still try and make it. We think he has the ability as a veteran to do it on fewer reps so he’s going to make a push and in the meantime that he’s not out there, Tarvaris will continue to go.”

I know what the T-Jackoffers are saying:  This is typical Brad Childress smokescreen crap, trying to get the Cardinals to prepare for both quarterbacks when everyone knows Jackson is going to start.  Maybe.  But, what if, just possibly, Frerotte really is trying to practice, and the team really is mulling letting him start even with a fracture in his lower spine?  What would that say about their faith in Jackson?  “We like Tarvaris, he’s a good kid and all, but if push comes to shove, we’d rather have an old, slow guy with a broken back.”  Seriously – that stuff about Zygi Wilf being responsible for Jackson’s benching?  I’m not buying it now.  The vibes coming out of Winter Park all say that the coaches would rather have someone rip their testicles out with a fork than let Jackson start in a playoff push.  They don’t believe in him anymore than Zygi does.  And they shouldn’t.  He sucks.
