JaMarcus Russell to the Vikings?

AUTHOR: | IN: Vikings | COMMENTS: None Yet

JaMarcus Russell may be the classic example of the man with the million dollar arm and the five cent brain. Which is why the Oakland Raiders gave him his walking papers just three years after selecting him first overall in the draft. Of course, if we’ve learned one thing about quarterbacks with great arms, it’s that no matter how big a turdbucket they may be, they will always get a second chance somewhere, from someone. The question on everyone’s mind now is, which franchise will be brave enough to give JaMarcus his shot at redemption? I’m sad to say that, [...]

Vikings, Visanthe Shiancoe Working on an Extension

AUTHOR: | IN: Vikings | COMMENTS: None Yet

In two short seasons, Visanthe Shiancoe has gone from being a free agent bust with hands of stone to one of the most dangerous red zone weapons in the NFL. Now, the Vikings are looking to reward Shiancoe for his vast improvement. Sources say the team is discussing a contract extension with the tight end, which would pay him between $5 million and $7 million a year. Shiancoe still has two years left on the $18.2 million deal he signed with the Vikes in 2007. But, as we have seen many times since Zygi Wilf took over the team, this [...]

Adrian Peterson Puts the Minicamp Mini-Controversy to Bed

AUTHOR: | IN: Vikings | COMMENTS: None Yet

Adrian Peterson is not interested in dwelling on whatever went down between him and Brad Childress two weeks ago when AD elected to skip minicamp in favor of celebrating Adrian Peterson Day in Palestine, Texas. “It’s over with,” Peterson said when asked about the small controversy during a media session at his two-day football camp at the University of Oklahoma. Furthermore, Peterson assured reporters that in no way does he believe he should be excused from off-season activities just because the team allows Brett Favre to report whenever he feels like it. “It had nothing to do with Brett Favre,” [...]

Brett Favre Wants Another Shot at the Saints

AUTHOR: | IN: Vikings | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Brett Favre is still not ready to publicly announce that he will play the 2010 season at quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings. But, in a new interview, he drops the biggest hint yet that he is beginning to get that old familiar itch. And this time the itch may be itchier than usual, thanks to the way things ended last season against that team from New Orleans. “I would love to go beat the Saints,” Favre tells Al Jones of the Biloxi Sun Herald. The quarterback adds, “I know I can still play at a high level. Last year was [...]

Joe Webb Has a Bandwagon. And Sid Hartman is Driving It.

AUTHOR: | IN: Vikings | COMMENTS: None Yet

There’s no need to worry anymore about the Vikings finding their quarterback of the future. They already have him. His name is Joe Webb. He was drafted in the sixth round this year out of Alabama-Birmingham to maybe be a wide receiver. Then everyone realized what a great arm he has – he did play quarterback in college – and Brad Childress decided to give him a shot behind center. His OTA and minicamp sessions at QB were impressive. So impressive that, now, he’s being hailed as not only the best young QB talent to arrive in Minnesota since Daunte [...]

Chris Johnson Vs. Adrian Peterson

AUTHOR: | IN: Vikings | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Everyone has their own opinion about this subject. Who is better, Adrian Peterson or Chris Johnson? This is my unbiased take on it. Speed- Chris Johnson is the unofficial fastest man in the NFL. Adrian Peterson is no slouch when it comes to speed but you can’t compare him to Johnson in this aspect. Advantage Chris Johnson   Turnovers- Adrian Peterson is notorious for his butter fingers. He has 20 fumbles in his NFL career or about 7 fumbles a year. Chris Johnson on the other hand, in two NFL seasons, has 4 fumbles. Advantage Chris Johnson   The [...]

Ndamukong Suh Wants to Sack Brett Favre

AUTHOR: | IN: Vikings | COMMENTS: None Yet

It wasn’t trash-talk when Lions #2 overall draft pick Ndamukong Suh named a certain (not-yet-confirmed-for-2010) Vikings quarterback as the NFL player he would most like to sack. It was simply an honest answer. After all, what defensive lineman wouldn’t like to sack Brett Favre? As Suh himself said, “That would be a nice notch on my belt.” And no, Suh made no mention of taking out Favre’s ankles, or putting an “X” on him or anything like that. So, there’s no reason for Visanthe Shiancoe to get all bent-out-of-shape, launch a Twitter feud, or make a crude poster of Osama [...]

Do the Vikings Have a Problem With Chad Greenway Too?

AUTHOR: | IN: Vikings | COMMENTS: None Yet

Is it time to add Chad Greenway to the growing list of Viking players who are suffering from mild to severe cases of off-season discontent? Don’t know. But there is something slightly mysterious going on with him. Apparently, throughout this weekend’s minicamp, Greenway came out to stretch with the team, but instead of practicing, returned with other injured players to the locker room. This morning, the linebacker spoke to KFAN’s Paul Allen about the situation. “Coach and I had a little agreement and that’s all I can say about that,” he explained, adding, “You’ll have to ask the head guy [...]

Vikings Sign Ryan Moats. Backfield Somewhat Crowded.

AUTHOR: | IN: Vikings | COMMENTS: None Yet

While Adrian Peterson was busy soaking up the love in his hometown of Palestine, Texas this weekend, the Vikings were hard at work trying to bolster their somewhat inexperienced running back corps. And today their efforts paid off with the signing of former Houston Texans back Ryan Moats. Moats joins a mix that already includes the veteran star Peterson, rookie Toby Gerhart, little-used Albert Young, a converted wide receiver in Darius Reynaud and practice squadder Ian Johnson. Did I mention that Moats was with the Eagles in 2005 when Brad Childress was still their offensive coordinator? Clearly, Chilly was not [...]

Ray Edwards Follows the Plan, Signs His Tender

AUTHOR: | IN: Breaking News, Vikings | COMMENTS: None Yet

Ray Edwards will be a Viking for at least one more year after signing his tender, which promises to pay him $2.5 million for the 2010 season. Had Edwards elected to let the Tuesday deadline expire without signing, the Vikings would’ve had the option of reducing their offer to $1.1 million. Not hard to see why Edwards got the tender signed before the deadline. The signing means Edwards will now be subject to fines should he choose to skip any more off-season activities. He missed this weekend’s minicamp, but because he wasn’t under contract, the team could do nothing to [...]
