Squashing Michael Vick to Vikings Rumor

There was an Internet rumor yesterday floating around on how the Minnesota Vikings will be prepared this offseason to offer Michael Vick a “megadeal” and how it is the owner’s #1 priority. This rumor was started “Incarcerated Bob from Jersey” of ‘Boomer & Carton’s’ WFAN Sports Talk Radio Show.

Before we order our #7 purple jerseys as if Randy Moss was back in town, it must be noted for three reasons on how this story is about as believable as Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus being engaged. Wait, what?

1) I follow NFL as much as the next guy and at no point have heard of Incarcerated Bob. When reading his Wikipedia page, Incarcerated Bob is not even the host of the show. He’s mainly known for being a tough guy who calls in, has a routine for picking winners of specific games (boys and girls, can you say “Octopus”) and makes crude jokes. For whatever reason, I don’t see Zygi Wilf (who Incarcerated Bob never mentions by name) being tight with these sorts of individuals.

2) In mid-November Vick was quoted as saying “When nobody else wanted me they (Eagles) did. I’ll definitely take that into consideration when it’s time to make a decision.” Everything we’ve read since from much more reliable sources (such as ESPN’s Adam Schefter or Sports Illustrated’s Peter King) points towards the Eagles retaining Vick whether it’s through placing the franchise tag on him (if available pending new CBA) or giving him a long term deal that is estimated to contain at least $45 million in guaranteed money. There are rumors that Vick likes working with offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg and is more likely to be pried from the Eagles if Mornhinweg is also hired away to be the signing team’s head coach. Again as of right now, the heavy front-runner to be coaching the purple next year is none other than Leslie Frazier.

3) And last but definitely not least; the Vikings main offseason priority is working with the state to obtain a new stadium deal. That’s far more important to the Wilfs than who’s coaching the team, any possible free agent transactions and any other rumor that may surface in the near future.

That’s it for tonight folks.
