Christian Ponder Plans Work Outs With Sidney Rice, Percy Harvin

Christian Ponder isn’t wasting his lockout time on frivolous activities the way some NFL stars are. Instead the new Vikings quarterback is getting down to serious business. That includes setting up work outs with receivers Sidney Rice and Percy Harvin.

Ponder says he already had a work out scheduled with Harvin when Rice sent him a Twitter DM. “I hope it happens,” Ponder said of the plans that resulted from his Twitter exchanges with Rice. “That’s something I’m looking forward to. It’d be great to spend time with those guys on the field.”

It’s handy that former FSU quarterback Ponder happens to live in Florida. Former Gator Harvin spends his off-season time in Tampa, and Rice likes to chill in Miami.

And the Florida work outs may only be the beginning of Ponder’s on-hands experience with his new mates. At a recent golf tournament hosted by Tim Tebow, Adrian Peterson told Ponder he wants to set up an informal team work out in Houston.

All this bonding is making me choke up a little. Let’s hope Ponder and Rice find good chemistry together when they toss it around. Maybe that would convince Rice to stick with the Vikings even if the new CBA makes him an unrestricted free agent.

Oh, and in case you were wondering: Yes, Ponder did receive a copy of Bill Musgrave‘s playbook during his brief contact with the team while the lockout was temporarily suspended. Ponder says he’s been studying the playbook while he flies around the country performing his duties as a first-round draft pick. That’s commitment.
