Training Camp tidbits

According to Kevin Seifert, Donovan McNabb has spent this past week organizing off site practices with players who were ineligible to practice with the team due to new contracts.  Personally, I think this speaks volumes about a guy wanting to prove he still has gas left in the tank.  Clearly Favre didn’t feel the need to spend the time to spend time with his receivers, which worked fine in 2009, but terribly in 2010 during training camp.

Even if Donovan is a player who is playing for a contract somewhere else, I still applaud at least the effort part.  The difference this year than the last few is that we finally have our QB in waiting to take the rains, clearly Tarvaris was not that player in years past, and I think the organization had that feeling.  We now have Christian Ponder on the roster to watch and learn from McNabb.

So far the reviews coming from Mankato have been positive on Ponder especially, and Webb at least a little bit.  I have not been down there, but like everyone else have been scouring sources and listening to live feedback.  Ponder has reportedly looked poised in the pocket, has completed some nice long balls, and has shown his speed to roll out or take off on the run.

Joe Webb has been a little more inconsistent in camp, but it is still clearly early.  We all know Webb will stick on the roster, and with the new QB rule where he can be active in the game, I think we will see him as QB, WR, and maybe in the backfield on a few select plays as the season progresses.

In unrelated Favre news, Miami has called him, and he has declined.  Also, he appears to have alienated B-Twice last year and Bernard is looking to have a bounce back year, pending any random hammy pulls.
