Another Reason To Cut Bernard Berrian

Forgive us as we sound like a bunch of broken records. Actually don’t forgive us because we’re not going to change anyway on our mission to have Bernard Berrian cut from the Vikings.

According to Mike Clay of Pro Football Focus, Berrian has caught only 11% of this targets this year. That’s 1 for 9 for those keeping score at home. Per Clay this is the lowest percentage he’s ever seen over a “semi-decent” sample size.

Berrian simply doesn’t have what it takes to be an NFL wide receiver anymore. He can’t separate from defensive backs, never has been one of the most physical wide receivers outside, doesn’t inspire teammates to play better and gets testy with the media when things don’t go well.

Offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave defending Berrian today in his presser saying he was pleased with his wide receiver, that Berrian pays excellent attention to detail and hopes to involve him as much as possible this week versus Kansas City. If Berrian is to catch on with this offense it had best be soon. He’s currently on pace for 5 receptions for 90 yards and 0 touchdowns for the season. In fact, the last time he caught a touchdown was November 22nd of 2009.

Since we’re on the topic of wide receivers it should also be noted that former Viking Juaquin Iglesias recently had a tryout with the Tennessee Titans. The Titans are currently thin at WR since Kenny Britt was lost for the season due to a torn ACL and MCL. We have to be careful with Emmanuel Arceneaux currently on the practice squad in the event more injuries arise. 4 NFL teams were interested in Arceneaux last January, it took a 75k signing bonus from the Vikings to be lured away from the CFL and any NFL team could sign Arceneaux away assuring him roster spot. If Berrian were let go, would any team be interested? We’d guess not. At least in the NFL.
