Minnesota Vikings 3 Round Mock Draft V.2

facebooktwitterreddit

Well, before the win against the Redskins it looked like we pretty much had that number 2 pick locked up. Then we get the W and it screws  everything up. Purple Nation is now picking 3rd overall, which isn’t bad, but if we were picking second, we would be able to pick the biggest prize in the draft other then Andrew Luck-USC’s LT Matt Kalil. However, this is very unlikely now that we are picking third, as the Rams are expected to take Kalil. On to the Mock Draft, I have the Minnesota Vikings trading their third overall pick to the Cleveland Browns for the fourth overall pick and the, lets say 24th pick, depending on how the Atlanta Falcons do in the playoffs.

Let the draft begin.

1st Round, 4th Overall Pick: Morris Claiborne(CB) LSU

An absolute stud CB, with Claiborne in the lineup, our secondary will instantly be improved. He possesses elite speed, elite ball skills, elite awareness, and elite coverage skills. He has to work on not peeking in the backfield as much, and he is only a decent tackler.

1st round, 24th Overall Pick: Alshon Jeffery(WR) South Carolina

This is a guy who was projected to be a top-10 pick before the season started, as he had an amazing sophomore campaign. However, inconsistent quarterback play hurt him, and thus caused him to go from a top 10 pick to a late first round pick. He is 6’4, and weighs a massive 229 lbs. He reminds me a lot of Calvin Johnson, just not quite as fast.

2nd Round, 35th Overall Pick: Zebrie Sanders(LT) Florida State

A somewhat underrated prospect, he has good size and has been guarding Florida State Quarterback’s blindside and right-side for a few years(including Christian Ponder). He is most famous for standing still for an entire play, as he just decided not to block anyone, but hopefully this is all in the past. We have invested so much in Christian Ponder, that it would be ridiculous to not take a LT in the first two rounds, and what better way to do this then to draft a former teammate of Ponder’s?

3rd Round, 67th Overall Pick: Robert Lester(FS) Alabama

The Vikes make another early move to improve the secondary. This will allow Hussain Abdullah to move back to his natural position at SS(If he is re-signed, that is). Lester is a ball-hawk, much like Rahim Moore(FS-UCLA) who was drafted last year and many expected the Vikings to draft him, before we took Kyle Rudolph.

Post-Draft Remarks: Our secondary has now been bolstered. I feel great having Morris Claiborne and Chris Cook on the outisde with Antoine Winfield guarding the slot. We have now also disposed of Jamarca Sanford(Thank God) and will give Jared Allen more time to get his 23 sacks. Offensively, we have given Ponder the protection he needs(With hopefully the help of a couple free agent pick-ups) to succeed. We have also given Ponder(And Percy Harvin) that No. 1 WR we so desperately need. With these players drafted along with good free agent hunting, we seem to be in pretty good shape for next year.
