Bryant McKinnie Should Report to Ravens Camp Monday

The Bryant McKinnie saga never ends. Last month it was reported that McKinnie had been held out of Ravens minicamp over the same weight concerns that got him booted off the Vikings in 2011. Of course McKinnie denied there was anything going on with his weight, and said he was in training getting ready for the season. I guess hoisting vodka shots and getting lap dances now qualifies as training.

Despite the conditioning issue, McKinnie assured his team and us that he would be ready once training camp got rolling. Then Ravens training camp came around and, surprise, Bryant McKinnie was a no-show. He skipped the first three practices, incurring a $30,000 fine for each missed day. That’s a lot of money for anyone but it’s especially a lot for McKinnie who is reportedly in dire financial straits after taking out some bad loans during the lockout.

McKinnie’s absence was initially put down to a “personal matter.” McKinnie then revealed the nature of that personal matter and it was so very Bryant McKinnie. He said he injured his back at home and was unable to report to camp. Somewhat hilariously, McKinnie reportedly had his chiropractor call the team on his behalf. Is that like a note from a doctor when you miss school?

The good news is, McKinnie’s back issue is all cleared up and he’s ready to return to training camp. Of course he’s very sorry about the whole mix-up. As he told the Carroll County Times, “I’m kind of disappointed. I’ve been training hard, I’ve been boxing and doing all this stuff. To have a setback like this is disappointing. Why isn’t anybody saying I got hurt? I don’t know what people thought was going on. How I got hurt is running out of the house. It was slippery and I fell and hurt my lower back. You can’t be playing football when your back is hurting. When I fell, I said, ‘I know I ain’t going out like this.'”

Need a laugh? Picture Bryant McKinnie slipping and falling while running out of his house. And why exactly was he running out of the house? He wasn’t being chased by a guy he owed money? Let’s hope not anyway.
