Chris Kluwe just can’t stop making news. On Saturday the controversial punter got the internet talking – again – by abruptly and angrily breaking off his relationship with the St. Paul Pioneer-Press. In case you weren’t aware, Kluwe had been writing a blog for the Pioneer-Press. But on Saturday the paper published an editorial on Kluwe’s favorite cause, gay marriage, that Kluwe didn’t like. In response, Kluwe slammed the paper and quit his blogging position.

In a series of tweets Kluwe explained his reasoning. “I will not be associated with any organization that tries to pull some bulls–t like that. Have the strength of your convictions,” Kluwe tweeted. He quickly elaborated on his position, saying he believes in the paper’s right to take a position, but didn’t appreciate the way they disguised their obvious opinion piece as an objective presentation of fact. Kluwe accused the Pioneer-Press of attempting to “confuse people through obfuscation and selected presentation of arguments.”

Unlike the somewhat weak-kneed Pioneer-Press people, Kluwe left no doubt as to where he stands. The high ground belongs to Chris Kluwe. In another tweet, Kluwe said he would begin looking around for a different blogging home come Monday. Just like to let Chris know, The Viking Age has no particular position on gay marriage or anything else – we really only care about football here and don’t follow politics – and would be happy to let him share his own opinions in unfiltered fashion (we can even bend the rules and let him swear). So hit us up Chris. My email is vikingageguy@gmail.com. Did I ever mention that I find you incredibly attractive and think your band sounds great?
