It’s been a quiet free agency period so far for the Vikings. But is all that about to change? Reports say a big fan wish list target is visiting Winter Park on Thursday. Receiver Greg Jennings will be in town on to speak with the Vikings’ brain trust. Jennings reportedly has his options narrowed down to Minnesota or Green Bay. He’s believed to be seeking a contract in the $7 million-per-year range.

Such is the stuff of juicy free agency drama. Two bitter rivals bidding over the same player. What can Minnesota tell Jennings to sway him toward the Vikings? Well, there’s this: in Green Bay he will be just another weapon, but in Minnesota he will be the clear #1. He will get all the balls thrown his way. Of course there’s a downside to being the only legit receiver on a team. You’re going to face a lot of double teams. I doubt many teams will be sliding coverage away from Jennings to account for Jerome Simpson.

And of course there’s the elephant in the room. Is Christian Ponder a good enough QB? The question has to be asked, whether fans like it or not. Does Ponder’s presence make Minnesota less desirable to a guy like Jennings? Especially after all these years playing with Brett Favre and then Aaron Rodgers.

If Jennings does decide to shun Minnesota in favor of Green Bay? Maybe that’s just a matter of money. Or loyalty to the Packers. But maybe it’s because he looks at Christian Ponder and he looks at Aaron Rodgers and decides he’d rather stick with the future HOF QB.

We’ll see how it plays out.
