Quick recap of the way things have gone today. First report had three teams in on Josh Freeman, probably Buffalo, Oakland and San Francisco. Second report, Vikings intrigued by Freeman but harboring concerns. Third report, Vikings and Raiders leading the race for Freeman.

Now the latest update from Jay Glazer who appears to be on top of this story more than anyone else: the Vikings are Josh Freeman’s most likely landing spot. Glazer says Leslie Frazier and Rick Spielman have both spoken to Freeman and Minnesota is now Freeman’s most “desirable” destination. That has a lot to do with Adrian Peterson and a nice receiver corps. It also has a lot to do with the two quarterbacks currently in town – a pair of guys Freeman figures he can easily beat out for the starting job.

Viking Nation seems split on the whole question of whether to bring Freeman in. Lots of fans say Ponder is crap and Cassel is a band-aid, so let’s go for a guy with greater upside. Other fans say we should ride it out with Ponder and Cassel and draft a QB after the season. Still others wish we could somehow go back in time and kidnap Fran Tarkenton.

If Freeman does become a Viking? Then Rick Spielman has essentially thrown in the towel on Christian Ponder. Unless he thinks Freeman’s presence might push Ponder (a guy who shouldn’t need any pushing by now). One thing I do know: McLeod Bethel-Thompson might want to start looking for work elsewhere.
