Now let me present a series of quotes related to the recent well-publicized Josh Freeman signing from various people affiliated with the Vikings.
Leslie Frazier when asked if Freeman will have a chance to compete for the starting job:
"That’s part of the equation. That’s definitely on the table. We’ll see how well he progresses and how well he picks up our offense."
Frazier on the negotiation with Freeman:
"It wasn’t much of a sales job that needed to be done."
Christian Ponder on what the Freeman signing means to him:
"I’m just focused on what I can do. We’ll see how it plays out and I’m a man of faith so I believe that God’s got my future in his hands. I don’t know what that means. I’m trying to get healthy. I think ultimately [the Freeman signing] is going to make me a better quarterback."
Ponder on Frazier’s public statements expressing support of him:
"Leslie is a man of faith, so I’m going to take him for his word. I believe what him and Rick say."
Matt Cassel on where this leaves him:
"It’s not anything that’s overwhelming or surprising, it’s one of those things that’s the NFL. I haven’t been told anything. I don’t expect anything. I’ll just continue to work hard and be ready to play just like I was last week when I found out on Friday."
And, Leslie Frazier on Christian Ponder’s future with the team:
"I think Christian still has a bright future here with our football team. It may not look like that on the surface, but Christian’s a professional."
And who will play Sunday against Carolina?
"We’re going to see how Christian does on Wednesday. But between he and Matt [Cassel], they’ll be the guys that are starting the game. We’re not going to try and get Josh up and going for this ballgame."
Oh.
