One-time Viking camp body Jacob Lacey was re-signed late last week after Harrison Smith was placed on IR-to-return with turf toe, but Lacey didn’t get in the game Monday night and now he is off the roster once again. The Vikings waived Lacey in order to sign cornerback Shaun Prater, who was just waived by the Eagles.

Prater was originally drafted by the Bengals in the fifth round in 2012, but ended up on injured reserve after hurting his knee and missed the season. The Bengals had him in camp again in 2013 but waived him at the end of preseason. He was picked up by the Eagles who had him on the roster until Monday when they cut him in order to sign linebacker Emmanuel Acho off the Giants’ practice squad. Prater so far has zero regular season appearances in his career.

This is a take-a-shot-move by the Vikings on a young talent who has yet to really get an opportunity. At 5-10, 190 Prater figures to be a slot corner type, in the mold of Josh Robinson but hopefully with more coverage ability and less tendency to lose his way on the field.

Actually that’s not fair to Josh Robinson, who did play a somewhat better game Monday night against the Giants. At least he didn’t get egregiously burned. Unlike Chris Cook.
