Is Brett Favre on his way back to Green Bay to help his old team make one last playoff run? What do you think? Undoubtedly the answer is “hell hell a thousand times hell no.” But that won’t stop people from spreading rumors.

It didn’t take opportunistic sportswriters very long to begin exploiting the Aaron Rodgers injury situation by floating out some juicy Brett Favre comeback lie-nuggets. Howard Balzer got the train rolling by tweeting, “Word is the Packers have reached out to Brett Favre.” Of course. Because why wouldn’t they? Because Favre coming back to lead the Packers, my would that not be a marvelous story?

Step number 2 in the rumor-spreading process: second reporter calls Bus Cook just to check and see how Brett is feeling. You know, just in case. Cause you never know. Maybe the Old Gunslinger still has a couple rounds left in his old shootin’ iron?

That’s your cue Gabe Neitzel of ESPNMilwaukee.

So I guess that settles that. Buuuuuut it sure was fun while it lasted. I mean think about it. Favre coming out of retirement to lead the Packers one more time? His old fans forgiving him at last? Redemption for the Green Bay pariah? Even Hollywood could not conceive such a perfect ending to the Favre saga. I get goosebumps just thinking about it. Goosebumps on my goosebumps.

Of course it’s too good to be true. Favre’s career ended once and for all on that cold TCF Bank Stadium turf in 2010. Brett has made that clear. He’s happy in retirement.

Gosh I hope this post gets me some traffic. Otherwise I just wasted five minutes of my life.
