A new mock draft has been handed down from the FanSided mothership. Who are the Vikings taking this week? The pick is in…
#8 Derek Carr, QB, Fresno State
Bortles and Manziels and Carrs oh my!
The pluses for Derek Carr:
Arm. Athleticism. Doesn’t get drunk and chase women that we know of.
The minuses:
Accuracy sometimes. Played out of the shotgun a lot in college so, can he play under center? College system may have helped over-inflate his stats. Has Blaine Gabbert written all over him.
The plus-or-minuses:
He has the same last name as David Carr who sucked. He has the same first name as Derek Jeter who does not suck but unfortunately is a baseball player so I don’t know if this take is really significant.
Has Colin Cowherd said anything dismissive/jerky about him yet: No.
Does he pop on film according to Mike Mayock: Undetermined.
My take: I never heard much about this guy. Then Fresno State won some games and everyone talked about him. His draft stock “went up” which is what happens when people start talking about you. I read he squares his shoulders so that’s good. Josh Freeman DOESN’T square his shoulders so you know that squaring your shoulders is important if you don’t want to be terrible like Josh Freeman.
Is he better than Christian Ponder: I don’t know. Is Blaine Gabbert? Not really. So this is tough. I need to read seven or eight more Todd McShay mocks before I make up my mind what my opinion should be.
