Michael Johnson Speculation Is Now Michael Johnson Buzz

Viking fans have been playing connect-the-dots on Michael Johnson since the second Mike Zimmer was hired as head coach.

Goes like this: Michael Johnson played for Zimmer in Cincinnati. Zimmer now coaches the Vikings. Johnson is a free agent. Johnson will want to sign with Minnesota and play for Mike Zimmer again.

Pretty obvious.

Apparently, this dot connecting habit does not just exist among fans. It’s also big among people hanging out at the combine.

What’s the difference between fans tracing lines between dots and “media insiders” doing it?

When fans do it, we call it “speculation.” When “insiders” do it, we call it “buzz.”

So because Michael Johnson got mentioned in connection to the Vikings within earshot of Tom Pelissero, there is now “buzz” about Michael Johnson signing with the Vikings.

Again, we have no idea if the Vikings are pursuing Johnson. No idea if Johnson wants to play for the Vikings. No idea if Zimmer as coach factors in to Johnson’s thinking at all.

We just assume the Zimmer factor matters, and that the Vikings are naturally high on Johnson’s list of potential landing spots.

The people guessing about Johnson at the combine don’t really know any more than we do. But because their speculation is happening at a big event with reporters around who may then go tweet about it, it’s buzz.

Everson Griffen would be a more affordable and logical assumption considering the teams familiarity. This would allow the Vikings to add another free agent.

3kolu…,, I agree that Griffen should be resigned, but is he an every down DE in the league? Noone knows because hes not had that chance. Yes it would save a little money but Johnson is proven and still young. With close to 33 million to work with the Vikings can land 3 or 4 quality names in FA… Verner, Linval Joseph, Nate Allen and Michael Johnson are a few names I would definitely make a priority to sign. Then grab 1 or 2 average FAs plus add the 10 picks Spielman wants to have in the draft and we just added between 13 and 15 new players and at least 7 starters, mostly on defense of course. But if the price is reasonable still bring Griffen back and not lose the depth at the position. Keep him in the Role hes been in with a few more snaps added to his play time. THis would be the best option to turn the defense around immediately

Zimmer said in his interview on NFLNetwork AM show he likes tall DL ~ So Griffin might not be as high on the Vikings (((( need to do list )))) as many of us have thought over the past few months ~ He still could be on the to do list and this could be a smoke screen to bluff Griffin or someone behind the Vikings on draft day into trading up ~
