I think we’ve all realized for awhile now that the chances of Khalil Mack being available to the Vikings at #8 are almost zero.

So we didn’t really need more confirmation, but here it is anyway.

Fox national football writer Peter Schrager has been told by sources that Khalil Mack is a certain top 3 pick.

That’s out there now for teams who love Khalil Mack and might be willing to trade. You’re going to have to get up to at least 3.

Hey, it just so happens that the Rams are sitting at 2 and are looking to trade back. Funny how that works.

Even if this report smells a little bit like a reporter helping some team bait the hook for a trade, the underlying truth of it can’t be denied.

That underlying truth is, Khalil Mack is really good. He’s really highly regarded by NFL people. He really is going to go high in this draft.

The Vikings I have to believe would love nothing more than to add Mack’s talents to their very thin linebacker corps. A player like Mack would instantly transform the Vikings’ defensive personnel from middle-of-the-road to solid.

But it will take a pretty aggressive trade to get Mack, and I just don’t see Rick Spielman making that trade. Mike Zimmer will have to make it work without Khalil Mack.

I think he can manage it. But dang, Mack would look sweet in purple.
