Cris Carter Wants Vikings to Draft Johnny Manziel

Another Viking legend has given Johnny Manziel his official endorsement.

Brett Favre likes Manziel. Fran Tarkenton likes Manziel. And now, Cris Carter

Carter has bought into the Johnny Football hype. Just like a lot of other fans.

Manziel would certainly make for a lot of great blogging material, and he might even work out on the field after some reining in by Norv Turner.

But when you take the whole Johnny Football package together, the red flags, the questions about his ability to perform as a pocket QB, all of it together…is he a good gamble at #8 overall?

Will he even be there at #8? Rumors have the Buccaneers looking hard at Manziel at #7.

Just me, but I think Manziel to the Vikings is a long shot. Frankly, I doubt Rick Spielman will go QB in the first round at all.

But, if the Vikings do go QB in the first, Manziel makes as much sense as any of the other prospects.

Cris Carter doesn’t need any convincing. He’s a Johnny Football guy.

So are a lot of other former players. They seem to have bought into the idea that Manziel is a playmaker and a winner. They’re obviously not concerned about his red flags.

They’re also not in danger of being fired should they mess up this draft. Rick Spielman, on the other hand, does face that danger. So he might be inclined to look at Johnny Manziel a little differently.

    Manziel all the way

Carter is by far one of the top 5 best all time and it took way too long for him to get into the HoF, but (prepare for bitterness) he’s still a traitor who came out of retirement to play the worst season of his career as a #5 roster filler for the Dolphins when he should have just retired with dignity with the Vikings. Therefore I care not what he thinks about our team. Go back to Miami CC.

Now you’re finally making some sense. I don’t see Manziel as a Viking either. I’m a Bortles, Carr, Metzenburger or Garrapolo fan. I’d be happy with any of those choices.

Totally agree with the writer ~ Vikings go defense in the first round ~ What the Vikings need on offense more than a QB is a good left OG and a backup RB ~ Maybe even a Center ~ Sullivan didn’t look like he was all the way back from the knee injury that ended his 2012 season late in the year ~

The Vikings will be playing outside the next two years so AP and his backup become more important than ever ~ Next is a OL who can open holes and set up the short play action passing game ~ Plus Norv has said more than once his offense is based on the run first to set up the play action pass ~ So freeing AP and his backup becomes more important in clod weather ~ JMHO

While I’m at it ~ If the Vikings did happen to pick a QB at #8 I will back him until he proves he cant get the job done ~ I happen to believe the Vikings go with Cassel and Ponder this year and draft defense with the first 2 or 3 picks ~ This is the best guess I could make at this time ~ The great thing is the draft is less than 2 weeks away ~

I’m with Stryker…take the best available at #8 , then go get Carr!
