Don’t look now everyone, but Jon Gruden is talking crazy about quarterbacks again.

The commentator known for being insanely enthusiastic about pretty much every player has taken a plunge right into the deep end of QB draft speculation with his remarks about Fresno State’s Derek Carr.

You’ll never believe it, but Gruden really likes Derek Carr. How much does Gruden like Derek Carr?

A lot. According to Dane Brugler. A whole lot.

Per Brugler, Gruden made the following arguably over-the-top statement about Carr. “You could make a case for him going No. 1 overall, he’s got that type of arm talent,” Gruden said. “It’s rare.”

Gruden stopped short of comparing Derek Carr to Johnny Unitas. But he probably wanted to.

Needless to say, Gruden’s remarks should be taken with a grain of salt.

Not that Gruden doesn’t know what he’s talking about. We realize he’s very knowledgeable when it comes to quarterbacks. It’s just that, when Gruden starts talking about quarterbacks, I think he lets his enthusiasm sometimes carry him away.

He has valuable insight to contribute, no doubt, but for some reason he chooses to let that insight be obscured by his Crazy Jon Gruden Thinks Everyone Is Great bit.

After awhile people sort of don’t take a guy like that seriously.

So I don’t really know what to think of Gruden’s position on Carr. It’s nice that Carr has someone willing to go to bat for him. I doubt Carr will now get serious consideration as the #1 overall pick.

He might still go top 10, maybe, if some team happens to really love him.

And then I guess Jon Gruden will be sort of vindicated?
