Jermichael Finley Tweet Sets Off Vikings Speculation

facebooktwitterreddit

What is Jermichael Finley doing these days? Apparently he was hanging out in the Minneapolis area on Sunday if this tweet is any indication.

Finley’s followers immediately started throwing out suggestions for ways he could amuse himself in the Twin Cities, including going to the zoo, hitting Lake Minnetonka and going to a Twins game.

But seriously, what is Jermichael Finley doing in the Twin Cities? Could his visit be in any way Vikings-related (assuming Finley even is in the Twin Cities and didn’t just tweet that out randomly from some other location)?

Finley as we know is trying to come back from a career-threatening spinal bruise. The last report on Finley was that there has been no change in his medical status, meaning he still has not been cleared to return.

The Packers in the meantime have been making preparations for life after Finley, bringing in multiple tight ends including UDFA Colt Lyerla, who was signed after a tryout.

Finley could still return to Green Bay and indeed Mike McCarthy has indicated that he would like Finley to return. The Packers have left Finley’s locker open in hopes that the tight end can get back.

Finley himself has to also consider options outside the Packers. He visited Seattle in March and seemed on the verge of signing but failed the physical. Since then he has been working out, hoping to get medical clearance.

Is it possible that the Vikings could be a landing spot for Finley when/if he is cleared to play? Minnesota currently has Kyle Rudolph as their top pass receiving tight end, and after that things are a little shaky in terms of experience.

Chase Ford comes in with the best chance to score a job, and the Vikings also brought back Allen Reisner and picked up UDFA A.C. Leonard. Ford and Leonard both are interesting physical specimens who have a long way to go in their development.

It is not out of the question that the Vikings could become interested in Finley at some point, but there’s no evidence that his current Twin Cities visit has anything to do with the Vikings. He could just be hanging out.

It’s summer now, the weather is great, Finley could just be chilling. We’ll have to see if any reports surface of any Finley sightings at Winter Park. If Finley is indeed on the Vikings’ radar, that could make things very interesting.
