Matt Cassel Is the Vikings’ Starting QB In Everything But Name

The Vikings have yet to name an official starting quarterback, but it doesn’t take a genius to read between the lines and figure out that Matt Cassel is considered the #1 guy inside Winter Park.

Fact: Matt Cassel has received the majority of first team reps in OTAs.

Fact: Cassel has been strongly endorsed by OC Norv Turner, who likes Cassel so much, he reportedly tried bringing him to Cleveland last year.

Fact: The Vikings moved quickly to re-sign Cassel before free agency began, wanting to keep him from hitting the market.

Teddy Bridgewater will have his day, maybe even this year, but it’s clear that Cassel will be the starter going into training camp. Bridgewater says he is fine with the current pecking order.

“It’s not tough at all because I have nothing but my best interest for the team, and I’m very excited about this team that we have here,” the rookie said per ESPN. “I’m just happy for this entire team.”

Good work by the rookie, saying all the right things. That media schooling by Vikings PR is paying off.

There’s really no downside to proceeding with Cassel as the starter. He is good enough to hold down the fort in the short term, and he clearly has the respect of teammates. But, at some point, the reins will be handed to Teddy Bridgewater.

Bridgewater is the future. Cassel is the stopgap. Christian Ponder is what you’re left with if everything falls apart.

Hey dumbass, Cassel got most of the OTA reps because Bridgewater missed half of OTA’s while he was at the rookie premier in California, remember? And they moved so quickly to resign him because the free agent market for QB’s was terrible and they knew someone else would grab him if the waited. Once again you’ve shown you don’t know anything about football. If you’re going to write about the sport you should really try to do a better job paying attention to it.

Let me ask you a question…You mad Bro? It seems like you are…I’m just sayin

      • Jake

I am mad. I’m mad because once again Zinski is waisting everyone’s time with this drivel. His takes on the team are unrefined, unintelligent and completely worthless. He put no effort into researching what he says. He’s a shit writer and I’m tired of seeing his shit articles taking up space on this site that could otherwise be used by someone who knows what the fuck they are talking about.

        • Cool Jack

Then dont read him so we dont have to listen to your shit…..

          • Jake

I think it’s respectable the way you’re sticking up for your husband but do the rest of us a favor and tell him he sucks, and I’m not talking about your cock.

          • Cool Jack

            Bipolar cross your mind…?

    • Todd Robinson

So, your saying Turner doesn’t like him? Because of the fact that he was picked up prior to opening free agency? How does this statement contradict the report? Teddy B has returned and Cassel is still getting most of the first team reps. This bothers you, why? I have much more of a problem with your vulgarity than I do with this report! Clean-up your act fella!!!

      • Cool Jack

Totally agree…we don’t need this type of language or immaturity on here…

  • Daniel Laxen

Hey Ponder looked real good on that sports science thing…That must be awful. Your best career hilight is before he even took a snap as a pro. His old lady is hot!
