It was reported yesterday that Minnesota Vikings safety Harrison Smith was seen in a walking boot after the Thursday Night Football game against the Green Bay Packers and that an MRI would be done on the swollen ankle today.

Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer spoke with the media after the MRI was done and was pleased to report that Harrison Smith’s ankle showed no serious signs of significant damage and that the MRI looked good.

Here is a tweet from Minneapolis Star Tribune’s Master Tesfatsion about the results:

This is excellent news for a Minnesota Vikings team that will look to depend on Smith in their secondary.  With both Robert Blanton and Captain Munnerlyn struggling this season, any sort of continuity of strong play is a welcomed addition to the team.

The injury happened in the first quarter of the Thursday Night Football loss to the Green Bay Packers.  Harrison Smith blitzed the quarterback and came up limping a bit after a Packers offensive lineman rolled up on his ankle.  He went over to the sideline and put tape over his cleats and continued playing to finish the game.  Smith already tapes his ankles under his cleats, but the extra tape provided stability to the joint.

We should expect Harrison Smith to be able to tape his ankle up the way he did on Thursday and be able to play against the Detroit Lions on Sunday, October 12th.  With the extra days to heal up, Harrison Smith shouldn’t miss any time because of this injury.
