Harrison Smith, being a tough guy, was able to play through to the end of Thursday night’s debacle despite suffering an injured ankle.

Smith reportedly rolled the ankle on a blitz and afterward had some trouble walking around, but rather than come out he had the ankle re-taped and stayed in the game.
It didn’t seem like the injury was that serious last night but come Friday morning things looked a little more dire. The media report Smith has been walking around on crutches with his left foot in a walking boot.

Smith has been the Vikings’ best defensive player so far this year, showing every bit of the versatility and playmaking we thought he’d exhibit as a showcase player in Mike Zimmer’s defense.
Losing him obviously would be a massive blow to the Vikings, but until he is further evaluated we won’t know how serious the injury is and how long he might be out. Last year Smith missed much of the season after suffering turf toe.
Just one more lousy piece of news to mess up your post-beatdown Friday. Ain’t this fun?
Update: Mike Zimmer said in his Friday press conference that Smith underwent an MRI and there is no significant structural damage in the ankle.
