Vikings Give Game Balls To Child With MD

This week, a photo of a thank you card that an 8 year old child with muscular dystrophy sent the Minnesota Vikings made the rounds on the internet.  This touching and humorous note was a great spirit lifting thing to see while the Vikings were on a 3 game losing streak.

Here is what the card said for those of you who missed it:

Dear Mr. Zimmer,

Thank you for the letting me watch your practice last Saturday.  It was fun.  The players were nice to me and signed my Viking helmet.  My grandpa said to expect good luck for you because you have used up all your bad luck already.

-Alex

Six days after Alex watched the practice, the Minnesota Vikings took on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.  In a contest that showcased a lot of great defense and required an overtime period to decide, Minnesota pulled off a victory after an Anthony Barr forced fumble, fumble recovery, and defensive touchdown sealed the deal.

In the locker room after the game, the morale was high.  Vikings.com released a video of head coach Mike Zimmer giving away the game balls.  Instead of giving them to Anthony Barr or another Vikings player, Zimmer had something else in mind.

Zimmer announced that the game balls would go to 8 year old Alex and his grandfather.  It is a touching, yet amusing way to thank them for being fans and do something good for Alex and his family.  It’s a classy move from the organization and something that they should be proud of.
