Adrian Peterson Aims For 2,000 Yards And Career Rushing Title

Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson has made his comeback to the Minnesota Vikings after missing a majority of the 2014 season due to legal issues and being placed on the Commissioner’s Permission/Exempt List.  While that incident set him back in his quest for the NFL’s career rushing title, the NFL’s record for most games in a season, and defeated his goal of 2000 yards rushing for the year, he’s back to putting those hefty expectations back on himself for the 2015 season.

According to a recent article on the TwinCities.com’s Pioneer Press website, Adrian Peterson is more than ready to take on the challenges that he puts forth for himself.  That includes one mark that he sets for himself every single NFL season:

"“I want to pass that 2,000 mark every year.”"

Passing 2,000 yards rushing in a season is something that every running back should strive for, but is also something that very few running backs can achieve.  However, when it comes from the mouth of Adrian Peterson, who came within eight yards of breaking the NFL’s season rushing record currently held by Eric Dickerson, it’s much more believable.

And while that record is still being chased by Adrian Peterson, there is another that he’s been talking about breaking as well.  That is Emmitt Smith’s career rushing record of 18,355 yards.

"“A lot of things are still to come. … I look at things that anything is possible. He played 15 years. I’m going into year nine but I’ve only got eight on the body. That’s a long-term goal (to break the record).”"

Adrian Peterson’s got some ground to make up if he wants to catch that record.  He’s missed some games in career due to injuries and legal issues that have pushed him back in the chase.  However, Peterson feels that he can continue playing at a high level long into his NFL career.

"“I’m blessed with tremendous talent and recovery and everything, so I feel like I’ll be able to play as long as I want. … I want to play seven more (years). Eight. I really feel that I can be 38 out there and still be the best running back in the NFL.”"

What do you guys think?  Does Adrian Peterson have a solid chance at the career rushing record?  Or should he instead keep his focus on the season rushing record?  Either way, if he comes close to meeting any of those marks, we as Minnesota Vikings fans will all be watching with baited breath hoping to watch football history.
