The Twin Cities may soon have another Antoine Winfield tearing up football fields and making life miserable for wide receivers.

According to a report by Ryan Burns of GopherDigest.com, Jerry Kill and the Minnesota Golden Gophers have offered CB Antoine Winfield Jr. The offer was reportedly made during an unofficial visit.

The 5-9, 183-pound Winfield is listed as a three-star recruit by Scout. The Woodland, TX DB has reportedly received offers from Eastern Michigan, Houston, Lamar, Missouri, Northwestern, Purdue and SMU.

Winfield reportedly ran a 4.27 40 at a camp in Columbus this summer and is hoping for an offer from his father’s alma mater Ohio State.

But if the younger Winfield can’t get into Ohio State, he can always go to school in the city where his old man had his greatest years as a pro.

I’ll tell you this: If Winfield Jr. dreams of playing for the Vikings, then playing for the Gophers is a good way to set that in motion. The Vikings have a great history of giving shots to Gophers players, including current CB Marcus Sherels.

It doesn’t sound like Winfield is a super-high-level recruit but if he can run that fast, and if he has any of his father’s toughness and grit, he could end up being a pro.

But can he tackle like Antoine Sr.?
