Josh Robinson returns to practice for Minnesota Vikings

Mike Zimmer announced to the media Wednesday morning that cornerback Josh Robinson has returned to practice.

Robinson remains on the PUP list for the time being but there is still a chance he could be activated from the list ahead of this weekend’s game vs. Detroit.

Under league rules, the Vikings have a five week window to activate Robinson, so there’s no particular reason why they would need to activate him at this time.

If/when the Vikings do decide to remove Robinson from PUP they will have to clear a spot on their 53-man roster by cutting someone.

Candidates to be cut in order to make room for Robinson include CB Jabari Price, QB Taylor Heinicke and TE Chase Ford.

Those pining to see Josh Robinson return to the team should ask themselves which of the above-listed players they would willingly sacrifice.

Again, the Vikings do not have to activate Robinson this week and the way their roster is set up right now, I don’t think they will.

If the Vikings were hurting at cornerback they would probably have more urgency about bringing Robinson back.

The Vikings know they can string it out week-to-week on Robinson and activate him if need be. It’s kind of like having an extra DB held in reserve who doesn’t count against your 53-man roster or practice squad.

Robinson was originally placed on the PUP list after suffering a pectoral tear during a fluke practice fall in the spring.

A third-round pick in 2012, Robinson would be no better than the Vikings’ fifth cornerback if he were added to the team today.
