Minnesota Vikings cornerback Captain Munnerlyn has been awarded with the week 17 Bridgestone Performance of the Week for his game against Green Bay.

When the NFC North title was on the line during week 17 of the NFL season, it was a savvy veteran cornerback who stepped up to the plate and made some big plays to help the Minnesota Vikings overcome the Green Bay Packers.

Cornerback Captain Munnerlyn had a very heads-up play with less than 5 minutes left in the third quarter. Defensive end Everson Griffen got to quarterback Aaron Rodgers to cause a fumble. However, on the field in real-time, it appeared as though Rodgers had passed the ball, so the Packers offense did not chase down the football.

Munnerlyn, a smart player with seven years of experience in the league, didn’t hear a whistle to stop play and continued the play, picking up the football and running it into the endzone for a touchdown.

Because of his great play on Sunday, Captain Munnerlyn was named the Bridgestone Player of the Week for week 17 according to Vikings.com.

Munnerlyn is very proud of his team’s defense over the course of the last several weeks and knows that it will take more great play in order to hopefully make some noise in the playoffs.

"“If you look at the past couple weeks, we’ve been playing outstanding on defense, and that’s what’s been getting us over the top,” Munnerlyn said. “It’s definitely been team wins, and at the same time, we’ve been playing ‘lights-out’ on defense. I’m always a firm believer that defense wins championships. If you stop the opponents from scoring, you can get to the big dance and win a championship.”"

You can see Captain Munnerlyn and the rest of the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday at noon central time when they take on the Seattle Seahawks in the Wild Card round of the NFL playoffs.
