U.S. Bank Stadium is starting to look more like a football field than an arena with turf being placed in the stadium where the Minnesota Vikings will play.

Watching the construction of U.S. Bank Stadium over the last year has been very interesting. Seeing the beams go up, seats get installed, and drainage systems being put in was great to watch, but it still never had the feel of being a football field.

Now, it finally seems to be getting the Minnesota Vikings touch, as the Vikings as well as other media sources are reporting that the turf is being installed in the stadium. While it may seem like a minor step in a billion dollar facility, it is a big step toward recognizing the building as a place to play football and separate it from other major concert calls and arenas.

In case you haven’t seen a bit of the field being put into place, here is a video explaining what the new turf is like from the WCCO CBS YouTube account:

From what the reporters were saying during the video, the playing surface sounds as though it is much safer and much more durable than the Minnesota Vikings have used as a home field in the past. The fact the endzones can be used interchangeably for different events is a really cool feature that could save a lot of time and hassle.

Plus, it appears as though the yardage markers on the field will have the same kind of numbering as the Minnesota Vikings jerseys will have, complete with the serifs (sails) on the numbers.

This style of numbering would not only make the turf unique to the Minnesota Vikings, but it also add to the identity of U.S. Bank Stadium during television broadcasts.
