Adrian Peterson posted a video to show ‘age does not matter’
Not long after the Minnesota Vikings declined to pick up the 2017 option for Adrian Peterson, the 31-year-old running back posted a video on twitter showing that he is in top shape.
It is hard to judge how much Adrian Peterson has left in the tank at this point in his career. He isn’t your typical player. In 2012, he won the NFL MVP award, which is a great accomplishment by itself. Even more impressive is that he won the award despite the fact that the previous season he tore his ACL and MCL in his left knee. Some people thought he may never be the same again after that injury. Instead of declining he almost broke the single season rushing record that year.
He also isn’t a true 31 in NFL years in the sense of hits taken. He has spent time away from the game for various reasons. For example, in 2014 Peterson was suspended for most of the season due to a child abuse case. In addition to the suspension, he has rarely played in preseason games. He has also spent a decent amount of time recovering from injuries. The time off has resulted in less hits on his body than a typical running back at age 31.
In a video shared by Adrian Peterson on Twitter to show the kind of shape he is in, he was put through a workout that consisted of bench press, weighted step ups, squat jumps, and incline jumps. It is clear that he is trying to show that he is still explosive as he enters free agency. There is a quote in the video that says “Age does not matter if the matter does not age.”
It is understandable why someone would be cautious about the possibility of Peterson joining their team at his age. It also makes sense why someone would hang on to the idea that he might be the first back to play longer than previous players. Regardless of how someone may feel about Adrian Peterson, this video will only help him going forward. It shows some signs that he is still the same AP and most importantly he is willing to work for it.

The Vikings made the right move by declining his 2017 option regardless of how much he ends up having left in the tank. Some team is going to pay way too much money for him. I am just glad that team will not be the Minnesota Vikings.
