The Minnesota native and former Arizona Cardinals first-round draft pick is reportedly being sought after by the Vikings’ front office.

After selecting two more wide receivers in the most recent NFL Draft, the Minnesota Vikings have now added a total of five receivers in the past three drafts. Despite that, the Vikings are reportedly still interested in bringing in a free-agent pass catcher with a little more NFL experience.

According to KSTP-TV’s Darren Wolfson, Minnesota is, “already pursuing,” free-agent wide receiver Michael Floyd. Wolfson also noted that an unverified source told him both Vikings general manager Rick Spielman and head coach Mike Zimmer have each spoken to Floyd recently.

Born in St. Paul, Minnesota, the wide receiver is coming off of a forgettable fifth season in the NFL. Floyd spent 13 games with the Arizona Cardinals before getting released due to a DUI arrest and spending the rest of the year as a member of the New England Patriots.

More from The Viking Age

Before 2016, he was averaging 53 catches, 838 receiving yards, and five touchdowns per 16 games.

Now a free-agent, the former Cardinals 2012 first-round draft pick has yet to sign a contract with a team for the 2017 season. But Floyd could have the speed (4.4 40-yard dash time) and size (6-foot-3, 220 pounds) that the Vikings have been looking to add to their wide receiver group this offseason.

However, even if he is signed by Minnesota, it is likely going to be a team-friendly deal based on Floyd’s past run-ins with the law and him possibly receiving a suspension to begin the upcoming season.

If the Vikings can find a way to sign him to a one-year contract with an option for a second year if everything goes well, Floyd may be worth taking a chance on.
