Gil Brandt of NFL.com continued his list of best players to play at each position with the cornerbacks, where a Minnesota Vikings player was included.

When people think of the best cornerbacks ever to play the game of football, there are some names that come to mind. Newer fans will think of Darrelle Revis while others may point to Deion Sanders or Rod Woodson. Sadly, not many Vikings cornerbacks enter the discussion.

However, a surprise player from Minnesota was included on a list from NFL.com NFL Media senior analyst Gil Brandt when he put together a list of the best cornerbacks of all time, making the list even more fun for Minnesota fans.

The top 31 list (an interesting number, but any list is fun) had former Minnesota defensive back Antoine Winfield at the #25 spot.

More from The Viking Age

Winfield was a first round draft pick of the Buffalo Bills in 1999 out of Ohio State. The Akron native won the Jim Thorpe Award at the college level and was a consensus first-team All-American.

He joined the Vikings in 2004 and stayed with the team through the 2012 season before playing his final season with the Seahawks in 2013 and being cut before the regular season began.

Here are the accomplishments Brandt has listed for Winfield in his countdown:

  • Voted to three Pro Bowls
  • Recorded 27 career interceptions

Congratulations to former Minnesota Vikings defensive back Antoine Winfield for being included on this list of the greatest cornerbacks ever to play the game and huge kudos go out to Gil Brandt for recognizing his ability.
