Day 2 Practice Notes

Who needs Simeon Rice when you have Brian Robison?  Rookie DE Robison made a great impression on coach Brad Childress in today’s morning session when he blew by Artis Hicks and tackled Mewelde Moore in the backfield.  Robison went on to strain a muscle in the second practice but it’s not considered serious.

Veteran S Darren Sharper was woozy after a big collision with FB Tony Richardson, and sat out the day’s second session.

Ben Leber missed both practices with a strained calf.  Dontarrious Thomas is getting lots of reps as a result.

Sidney Rice took the field for the first time since signing his contract.

Could Brad Childress really be thinking of giving up play-calling duties?  In a possible sign of things to come, offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell took over guiding the KAO (kick-ass offense) during an unscripted portion of practice.  Quarterbacks coach Kevin Rogers could also take the reins at some point.

People are saying nice things about Marcus McCauley.  On one play today he wowed everyone by outrunning speedy Sidney Rice on a deep pattern.  Could the rookie win the nickelback spot?

S Tank Williams showed the lumber-laying ability he was noted for when the team signed him by lighting up rookie TE Braden Jones.

Brad Childress had the following to say about Pat Williams, who has broken off contract talks and probably will not return next season:

"I’ve had great conversations with Pat. … I did read what was written. Just as long as my relationship with Pat stays good. I know where Pat stands. He knows where I stand. He’s a team guy. He wants to be here. He’s a valuable member of our football team and I appreciate everything he does for us on and off the field."

Childress added in his mind, “But he ain’t worth what he thinks he’s going to get.”
