Turk McBride Needs A Smack Upside The Head
By Dan Zinski
I didn’t personally see the premiere episode of HBO’s Hard Knocks: Training Camp, which follows the Kansas City Chiefs through their preparations for the 2007 season, but apparently it features Chiefs rookie DE Turk McBride talking some serious smack during one of the recent scrimmages against the Vikings. Reportedly, Mr. McBride turns to one of his teammates after a drill and says, “Their tackles are terrible.” Having not seen the show, I have no idea if he’s talking about our starting tackles Bryant McKinnie and (for now) Ryan Cook, or if he’s referring to back-ups. However, for the purposes of getting ourselves pumped for the Sept. 23 game against the Chiefs – and perhaps stirring up a little unpleasantness with the boys over at Arrowhead Addict – I’m going to assume this McBride fellow meant our starters. In which case, Mr. McBride needs to be given a little lesson in keeping it zipped – a lesson which may or may not include a whack upside the head.
By the way, who in Chiefsland thought it would be a good idea to participate in this thing anyway? Is this really what the organization wants – some cocky rookie mouthing off on TV, and giving a team they have to play later in the season a lot of bulletin board material? I don’t know how good this McBride character is, or if he’ll even be playing come Sept. 23 – all I know is that, if I do have to be on the field against the Vikes for that game, one thing I don’t want is the guy who’s blocking me having extra motivation. So, for their own sakes, I’m hoping the other Chiefs defensive linemen take Mr. McBride aside and explain a few things to him. And if they want to load up some socks with bars of soap and go all Full Metal Jacket on his ass, that’s just fine too.
