Kevin Williams Talks About the Vikings’ Woes

While participating in a charity event at a children’s hospital, Kevin Williams gave his thoughts about the Vikings’ current dismal state and what might be done to improve it.

“We can’t sit there and dwell on the past,” the defensive tackle said. “We’ve got to try and get better. We’ve got seven games left to do that. We can’t go down any worse that we are right now. Got to keep pretty much upbeat and try and dig ourselves out of this. We’ve still got a slight glimpse of a chance. Another loss would be real bad for us as far as this season. We’ve got to try and put it together one game at a time. We can’t look past Green Bay right now.”

When asked what specifically is wrong with the team Williams replied, “I don’t know.  A lot of talking and nobody playing. We can’t sit here and talk about all the things that’s going on, things that’s went right. We just have to show up and play ball. That’s the main thing. There’s no need to sit here and talk about how good we could be and we’re not and how good we are and we’re not. We’ve just got to go play and correct the mistakes and do our job.”

I know one guy who definitely needs to play a lot better:  Kevin Williams.  He and the front-four pulled another disappearing act against the Bears, resulting in Jay Cutler‘s most professional-looking performance of the year (outside of that brain-dead interception in the endzone to Husain Abdullah).  Unfortunately, I don’t know how much more guys like K-Will, Pat Williams, Jared Allen and Ray Edwards can hope to squeeze out of themselves.  Pat’s washed-up at this point, Kevin is clearly fading, Ray is mentally packing his bags in anticipation of signing elsewhere in free agency and Jared, despite flashes the last couple of weeks, still can’t seem to get up to full-speed.

If there’s D-line salvation anywhere, it might be in some of the back-up guys like Letroy Guion and Fred Evans.  They’ve gotten more playing time lately and I wouldn’t be surprised if they get even more in the coming weeks.

Speaking of Pat:  there’s a story on Yahoo! saying he plans on playing in 2011 and perhaps beyond.  He can’t mean in the NFL, can he?
