Brett Favre Will Try to Play

facebooktwitterreddit

Your sedate afternoon lead-up to the meaningless Monday night game has been interrupted for this special announcement:  Brett Favre is going to try to play.

You thought this was impossible?  Well, so did everyone else.  But, apparently, that whole thing where you list someone as “out” on the injury report is a lot more – to borrow a Brad Childress word – fluid than we previously believed.  The Star-Trib is now reporting that Favre has been upgraded to questionable and will test out his arm prior to the game to see if he can indeed take the field to begin a new consecutive games streak.

The Star-Trib report comes on the heels of an earlier report from KFAN, via their afternoon goofball Common Man Dan Cole, saying there was “a very good chance” Favre would play against the Bears.  Given the source, most people were dismissive of the report – except ESPN which reportedly ran with it on-air.  This apparent punking of ESPN by the Fan and their least-credible on-air personality led to a brief Twitter outburst by reporter Tom Pelissero, who fired the following dart at Cole:

"What a life to be a “bit” media member. Lie to people for attention, or just be embarrassingly wrong and then say you were kidding. #sad"

Apparently Pelissero shot off this angry tweet before bothering to check his own sources.  As many an athlete has learned, it’s always better to think before you tweet.

Here’s the only question I would ask:  Why the hell would Favre want to play tonight on that concrete (according to Chris Kluwe) surface in what figures to be a full-on blizzard?  I’ll tell you why:  Because he’s Brett Favre, that’s why.
