Josh McDaniels Could Bring Tim Tebow to Vikings
By Dan Zinski
A remark by Peter King on NBC today has stirred tons of speculation among Vikings fans about the possibility of a new name being added to the quarterback mix in Minnesota.
King’s interesting comments regarded Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow. According to the long-time SI football insider, new Broncos top dog John Elway is unimpressed by Mr. Tebow, and could seek to trade the young quarterback.
So what does this have to do with the Vikings? Well, as we know, the Vikes on Friday interviewed former Broncos head coach Josh McDaniels as part of their search for a new offensive coordinator. King speculates that if McDaniels winds up on a team with a quarterback need, he could lobby his new head coach to trade for his former draft pick Tebow.
As we know, the Vikings are in the market for a quarterback. So, if McDaniels does end up landing the OC job in Minnesota, he could very well prevail upon Leslie Frazier and Rick Spielman to take a look at Tebow.
Of course, at this point McDaniels-to-Minnesota is far from a done deal. Also, would a team that already has Joe Webb at quarterback really be that interested in another raw talent like Tebow?
The argument could actually be made that Webb is a better prospect than Tebow. Webb is faster and has a better arm, and in his short time in the NFL has demonstrated a fair amount of leadership ability. On the surface, it’s hard to see why the Vikings would want to acquire a quarterback who represents at best a duplication of a guy they already have on the roster.
The Vikings, to my mind, would be better served spending a draft pick on an established veteran, perhaps even Kyle Orton, provided the price is not too high.
