It’s one day until the big showdown with the Green Bay Packers and the Vikings are dealing with a huge distraction. According to reports, cornerback Chris Cook is currently being held in Hennepin County Jail on a pair of misdemeanor domestic violence charges. KFAN (via PFT) reports that Cook was arrested early in the morning on Saturday by Eden Prairie police after neighbors called 911 on him.
This is not Cook’s first run-in with the law since joining the Vikings. Earlier this year he was involved in a weird incident in his native Virginia where a man accused him of brandishing a weapon during an argument, leading to weapons charges. Those charges were eventually dropped.
Obviously this is a serious situation for Cook. It’s also a serious situation for Leslie Frazier who finds himself dealing with yet another disciplinary matter related to off-field activity. Already this year a pair of Vikings, Rhett Bomar (now a former Viking) and Tyrell Johnson, have been hit with drunk driving charges. In both cases Frazier elected not to discipline the player. But this is a much more serious situation than just a simple DUI, and we’ll have to see how Frazier deals with it.
Oh and there’s a game tomorrow too. Against the best team in the NFL with a rookie quarterback starting. Vikings drama…it never ends.
Update: Cook is being held without bail with a hearing scheduled for early Monday. Translation: He’ll be in jail while the Vikings are trying to stop Aaron Rodgers. Thanks for nothing Chris.
Update #2: Details on the Cook story are being clarified…and it just keeps getting worse. Originally it was reported that Cook was arrested on two misdemeanor charges but now it’s being reported that at least one of the charges is a felony. Any way you slice it Cook will be sitting in jail at least until Monday when a hearing is held and bail is set.
