Viking Fans Wanted Andrew Luck. Today They Get to See Him.

Things didn’t quite fall into place the way a lot of Viking fans wanted. The Vikes didn’t suck quite enough and Andrew Luck slipped through their fingers. So they are forced to content themselves with Christian Ponder, a quarterback who at this point doesn’t look to have anywhere near as much upside as the former Stanford star.

No doubt there will be plenty of whining during today’s game from these disappointed Luckheads. Unless of course Christian Ponder thoroughly outplays him. There’s a distinct possibility that will happen. Luck has one game in his pocket as an NFL starter, and it didn’t go well. Ponder hasn’t had a ton of success in this league yet but he’s coming off a game where he played very well. Compared to Luck, Ponder is a wily veteran. He may not have Luck’s physical tools but physical tools aren’t everything. If they were, JaMarcus Russell would be an All-Pro. So don’t count out Ponder.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m not predicting Ponder will be a better NFL QB than Luck. That would be silly. Luck will almost assuredly end up the better pro. He might be the better pro now. But that will be determined on the field, not in the minds of daydreaming fans.

No doubt there are pro-Luck Viking fans who will secretly be rooting against Ponder today. You know this type. They care more about being right than they do about their team. They live to smugly rub it in people’s faces when they think they’ve been vindicated. As if they knew all along and didn’t just make a lucky guess. To these frauds I say, I hope Ponder goes for 350 with 3 TDs while Luck is picked off five times before getting broken in two by a sandwich sack from Jared Allen and Brian Robison.

Of course if Luck thrashes Ponder, I’ll cynically rip Ponder, because that’s the kind of fraud I am. But at least I know I’m a fraud. A little humility might help some of these other bozos.
