The plot thickens. Today questions began to swirl around Percy Harvin after some strange remarks from Leslie Frazier about the receiver’s attempts to return from an ankle sprain. Hours after Frazier’s words stoked the fires of rumor, the Vikings put an end to speculation about Harvin’s status for 2012. They put Harvin on IR, ending his season.

We had originally been told that Harvin would try to get back on the field for this Sunday’s game against the Bears. So in a few short hours we went from thinking maybe Harvin could get back out there to he’s done for the season. What happened? How bad is Harvin’s ankle injury? Is Harvin cooperating entirely with trainers as he works to come back? Or is Harvin in the middle of some kind of bizarre power play? If so, what’s the end game? Is he seeking to force a trade?

One would hope Harvin is not exaggerating the severity of his injury or otherwise refusing to fully cooperate with the team as part of some ploy to get himself run out of town. That would be ridiculous. But we don’t know if that’s what is actually going on. All we know is that Harvin won’t play another snap in 2012 for the Vikings. Will he be in purple for 2013 and beyond? Stay tuned.
