The latest word on free agent linebacker Desmond Bishop is…we’re still waiting. Last report had Bishop narrowing his choice of future team down to three. Chiefs. Vikings. Giants. Jacksonville was originally believed to still be in the running but Ian Rapoport says they are no longer in the picture.
I guess now it’s all about which team offers Bishop the best deal. If the deals are even money-wise? It would be tough for a guy to turn down the Giants, I have to believe. They have won championships in recent years and have a reputation as a top-notch organization. They always seem to reload after a down season.
Of course the Vikings can offer Bishop something the Giants can’t, something that might be very very attractive to the former Packer: the chance to play Green Bay twice a year. If Bishop has any hard feelings toward his former team? He might enjoy the chance to take out those frustrations. By clobbering people.
Cue all the Cheesehead jokes about the Vikings taking in washed-up Packers. Yes we know, the Metrodome is a Packer retirement home. I like to think of it as a sanctuary for people who have escaped the prison of Green Bay.
Oh and if the Vikings do bring in Bishop? Don’t look for Erin Henderson to just surrender his middle linebacker job. Henderson says he will fight for that job. Well that’s the kind of go-getter spirit we like from our second-tier players. You keep that game face on Erin.
