Many people are expecting Jerome Simpson to be replaced on the depth chart soon by rookie Cordarrelle Patterson. Fans may want to hold off on that because it seems like Jerome isn’t about to let that spot go without a fight.
Reports out of training camp are that Simpson has been doing an excellent job of creating separation to get open in the passing game. Last season, he dealt with a series of injuries that caused him to lose a lot of his speed and ability to make cuts on the field. Since then, Jerome has taken steps to treat those ailments and prevent them from happening again.

Although the Vikings used a first round draft pick on Patterson, they’ll have a hard time replacing Simpson if he can play at a high level. The addition of former Packers WR Greg Jennings will be a huge boost for the Vikings offense because he will be a distraction for the defense. Also, Jarius Wright has another opportunity to show that he can be the man to fill the hole left by Percy Harvin this offseason.
While most know Simpson for his flip into the end zone, they should start knowing him for working hard and playing hard. Perhaps Jerome Simpson won’t be able to hold off Patterson this year, but it sure is nice knowing that the Vikings actually have some depth at Wide Receiver this year.
