Could Antoine Winfield Be Returning?

Earlier this season, Antoine Winfield retired. But not officially. He declared that he was going to retire during his brief stint with the Seattle Seahawks, but then never filed his retirement papers to the NFL. Interestingly enough, ESPN’s Josina Anderson had a tweet about what is going on with Winfield currently.
With the problems that the Vikings are currently having in their secondary, it is logical to think that they have contacted Winfield about his services. The team is currently being hampered by injuries and some sub-par play that have helped make the Vikings the 4th worst passing defense in the NFL according to NFL.com.
Whether or not Winfield decides to return to football is still unknown. Even if he does, there is no guarantee that he will choose the Vikings to come back to. With him saying that he is willing to return to “the right situation”, it’s hard to know what the right situation will be for Winfield.
Last season, Winfield was one of the top corners in the NFL according to Pro Football Focus. His ability to play outside or nickel coupled with his solid tackling make him an ideal target for the Vikings. The 36 year old free agent will most likely listen to offers and take the one most appealing to him, and that may or may not be in Minnesota.
