The Vikings have shuffled their roster as a result of injury and there could be more shuffling to come in the near future. On Thursday the team sealed the deal on Desmond Bishop, sending the linebacker to IR after his season- and possibly career-ending ACL tear. Bishop got his first start of the season at WLB Sunday vs. Carolina but was removed from the game in the second quarter with the injury. Marvin Mitchell will start on the weak side.

To fill Bishop’s spot on the roster, the Vikings signed WR Rodney Smith off the practice squad. The 6-6 Smith had a couple nice moments in the preseason and looks like a promising youngster, though I don’t know how he fits into the receiver mix on a team that barely uses the guys who are supposed to be #3 and #4 on the depth chart.

Smith’s place on the practice squad has been taken by safety Brandan Bishop, a guy the Vikings signed earlier this year as a UFA and then cut. The Vikes have been taking a look at safeties this week in light of Harrison Smith’s turf toe which may or may not need surgery, depending on which source you choose to heed.

If Smith needs to go to IR – and it’s very possible that he will – then there will be yet another roster move. The Vikes play the Giants Monday night in New York.
