Preview

The Vikings travel to Dallas looking to stop a three game skid. Christian Ponder gets his second straight start at QB with Josh Freeman still not ready to assume the reins. Ponder was mediocre in last week’s crushing home loss to the Packers, despite big promises of a more relaxed and therefore effective performance. Adrian Peterson was once again mostly a non-factor.

The Vikings will have their hands full defensively with a Dallas Cowboys team that features dynamic and sometimes overly vocal receiver Dez Bryant. The secondary, already having a miserable year, will be further depleted with both Jamarca Sanford and Chris Cook lost to injury. Tony Romo will be looking to light up the scoreboard against a Vikings defense that is arguably the worst in the league vs. the pass.

The Cowboys themselves are not exactly great against the pass, ranking dead-last in yardage allowed through the air. Dallas has had their own injury problems in the defense but their pass rush has been effective and they are good at forcing turnovers. Christian Ponder may have a long day being chased by Dallas defenders unless his offensive line recovers from its recent pass blocking woes.

Minnesota must get Adrian Peterson going, but they must also establish a pass game early to keep Dallas off balance. A more aggressive game plan might help Christian Ponder gain confidence. The Dallas secondary can be exploited, but is the Vikings offense working well enough right now to take advantage? Can the Vikings’ pass rush get cranked up against Tony Romo and force the quarterback to make mistakes?

Prediction: Dallas 42, Minnesota 24
