Another coach is out the door in Minnesota, and another new one will be coming in soon. Reports say Buffalo has hired former Vikings LB coach and defensive coordinator Fred Pagac to coach their linebackers.

Pagac spent a year as DC in Minnesota under Leslie Frazier but was stripped of those duties after 2011 and replaced by Alan Williams. Pagac accepted a demotion to LB coach, an assignment he shared with Frazier’s pal Mike Singletary, and remained in that role through last season.

The Vikings interviewed Pagac to remain as LB coach but one suspects that was more a courtesy thing.

The pattern this offseason has been for a Viking coach to interview somewhere else and get hired – only after receiving permission to do so by Rick Spielman – and, in the next day or two, a report to surface about a replacement.

Joe Woods left as DB coach, and quickly Jerry Gray was reported to be hired. Brendan Daly left as D-line coach, and the next day we learned about Robb Akey.

So, in the next couple days, if the pattern indeed holds, we should know from a media source who the Vikings LB coach is. The Vikings themselves won’t officially announce any of these hires until the entire hiring process is complete.
