Professional athletes never forget a diss. Doug Baldwin certainly didn’t forget what Cris Carter had to say about him and the rest of Seattle’s receiver corps.

Carter, who when he’s not going on talk shows to show off his Hall of Fame ring is still employed as an analyst for ESPN, took a recent shot at Seattle’s receivers, calling them “appetizers.” Cause there’s no main course, see?

Well whatever. This bizarre culinary analogy did not sit very well with Baldwin, who took a short break from celebrating the Super Bowl to fire back at Carter. Without resorting to food-related metaphors.

“OK, y’all listen to me loud and clear,” Baldwin said. “Y’all listening? Y’all hear me? For all y’all who called us, the receiving corps, average, pedestrian, appetizers—I’m not going to say any names, but he knows who he is—I respect what you did on the field, but stick to playing football, because your analytical skills ain’t up to par yet. You need to slow down and go back and not do it half-assed and put some effort into it, because you’re saying some stuff that didn’t really make sense.”

“That dude who said that we were appetizers, he told me to Google him, and I did Google him, but I didn’t see any Super Bowl appearances, and I also saw two losses in conference championships. I have a Super Bowl ring, and I would gladly show that to him. And if he doesn’t have time to come see it, tell him he can Google it.”

Carter of course lost in the conference title game twice while a member of the Vikings.

So yes Doug Baldwin, you have a Super Bowl ring and Carter has zero. Tarvaris Jackson also now has a Super Bowl ring. So by your logic, if Dan Marino says Tarvaris Jackson isn’t a very good quarterback, Dan Marino has to sit down and shut up.

That’s basically what you’re saying, right Doug? And Carter is the one who needs to work on his analytical skills?

Hey Doug? Congrats on the Super Bowl win. That you got because you play on a team with a great defense.
